U2 is one of my favorite bands, and I had the fortune to be among more than 70,000 others on Monday at the new Cowboys Stadium for the concert. This was my second time to see the Irish band live, and they do put on a show.
I have people to interview and stories to write, but I can't stop thinking about the concert. I still have some songs set on repeat in my head. So I know this isn't exactly a post about education, but I thought some might enjoy hearing a bit about the concert.
My husband and I sat in Section 442, which if you've read anything about the concert weren't the best seats for acoustics. But I knew all the songs and was able to sing along despite a bit of reverberation. And some clips posted on YouTube filled in the blanks for statements Bono made to the crowd that night.
Among my favorite songs of the evening were "Magnificent" from "No Line on the Horizon," "Amazing Grace" and "Ultraviolet" from Achtung Baby. The band's stage, since nicknamed "The Claw" and "The Spaceship," was interesting. At first glance, it reminded me of an alien ship, a spider and an octopus. It provided a cool backdrop with all the lights during the show.
The Cowboys Stadium is a big place. We sat near the top of the stadium, and it was a bit dizzing looking so far to the ground. We did get plenty of exercise walking from the ground floor to our section. I did like the feel of Jerry World. There are dozens of places with high tables, perfect for mingling with friends. One floor had an opening where you could look out onto the field while getting concessions.
Oh, and I was introduced to Muse. I was not that familiar with the band, but enjoyed their set. I do admit that I was a little more interested at the time in purchasing a U2 tote bag. I couldn't bring myself to pay $40 for a U2 T-shirt. I learned later that some of the concert shirts are available online for $30.
I've read so many complaints about the concert, and I do wish the sound had been better. Still I was just glad to be there.
